Victim Estimates

Prosecutions and Convictions

The number of individuals prosecuted for human trafficking offenses more than doubled from 805 in 2012 to 1,656 in 2022. Similarly, convictions increased from 578 in 2012 to 1,118 in 2022. (BJS)

Forms of Exploitation

In the United States, labor trafficking is more prevalent than sex trafficking among foreign national adults, with 73% being labor trafficking victims and 11% sex trafficking victims in fiscal year 2022. (U.S. Department of State)

Human trafficking remains a significant concern in Florida, with the state consistently ranking among the top three in the nation for reported cases. Key statistics include:

Reported Cases: In 2023, Florida reported nearly 2,100 human trafficking cases, making it the third-highest state for such incidents. Of these, over 1,600 cases involved children. (CBS News)

Child Victims: In the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the Florida Abuse Hotline received 2,076 reports alleging human trafficking involving 1,627 children. The majority of these cases were related to commercial sexual exploitation. (myflfamilies.com)

Sex Trafficking: Sex trafficking is the predominant form of human trafficking in Florida. In 2021, 574 cases were reported to the Human Trafficking Hotline, with 80% involving female victims. The average age of first exploitation ranged from 11 to 17 years old. (MG Injury Firm)
